Meet Prof. Dr. Syed Arshad Husain, a distinguished pulmonologist with a rich background in respiratory medicine. Prof. Dr. Husain’s educational journey culminated in the completion of his Certification in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Elderly Care Medicine from the prestigious Oxford region in 2002. Building on this foundation, he earned the Certificate of Specialist Training in Respiratory Medicine in the South-west region in 2005, showcasing his commitment to excellence in the field.

In 2005, Prof. Dr. Husain traveled to the University of Lille in France to learn Interventional Bronchoscopy and Medical Thoracoscopy. This experience helped him become a leader in respiratory medicine, bringing valuable skills to his work.

With a focus on professional experience, Prof. Dr. Husain has served in key roles that reflect his commitment to advancing healthcare. Notably, he acted as a consultant appraiser for the MTW Trust and held the esteemed position of Training Program Director (TPD) for the Kent Sussex and Surrey Deanery from 2014 to 2018. As the Trust Innovation Lead, he played a pivotal role in establishing Endobronchial Ultrasound Transbronchial Needle Aspiration biopsy services (EBUS-TBNA) with Rapid Onsite Cytology Slide Evaluation (ROSE), showcasing his dedication to innovative patient care.

Prof. Dr. Husain has made significant contributions by imparting knowledge and guidance to students from King’s College London. His involvement in supervising Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) for Kings and chairing the Specialist Training Committee underscores his commitment to shaping the future of healthcare professionals.

Internationally recognized, Prof. Dr. Husain has assumed the roles of course director and trainer for various international courses since 2010. These courses cover a spectrum of topics including Bronchoscopy, EBUS, Interventional Bronchoscopy/Thoracoscopy, Thoracic Ultrasound, and Safety in Chest Drain courses.

Prof. Dr. Husain’s specialized services include the establishment of Endobronchial Ultrasound Transbronchial Needle Aspiration biopsy services (EBUS-TBNA) with ROSE for mediastinal lymph node enlargement. His utilization of cryotherapy for tumor ablation and biopsies demonstrates a commitment to employing cutting-edge techniques for patient care.

With a remarkable 30-year journey in the UK National Health Service and a standout 18-year focus on respiratory medicine, Prof. Dr. Syed Arshad Husain is celebrated as Dubai’s premier pulmonologist. His expertise is not just about numbers but a testament to his dedication to advancing medical understanding and elevating patient care. Prof. Dr. Husain’s proficiency and genuine passion make him a stalwart in the realm of respiratory medicine, setting the standard for excellence in Dubai’s healthcare landscape.

He is now working at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai and previously served at King’s College Hospital Dubai from 2019 to 2025.
